Is politics withering?

The recent issue of Desha Kaala, a kannada literary magazine, there is a debate on Politics. Shive Vishwanathan, GPD, G.S. Sadananda, et al have contributed to this debate. beginning with the concept note, all opine that there is some kind of degeneration in Politics today. They see this basically in the context of globalization and the decreasing authority of the nation-state, the power of the media in producing reality effect, rarefying of agendas in public action etc. Very fine articles.

I however feel that politics is vibrant as ever. I mean both in terms of the passion and programmatic action associated with politics is very much there. It is true that politics has changed. But has not diminished, or become trivilised as GDP would have us believe. I say this because during the time frame in which this decay is usually noticed is also the time in which the subaltern (dalit and women and others) politics has been most vibrant. The period marks a phase of assertiveness by the subalterns at a scale and manner never witnessed before. This is to be seen not only in the electoral politics but also at the level of daily politics. This is a period when subalterns have seized greater share in the public sphere, been participants in public discourse more and have generally shaped the public arena by expanding it and making it lose some of its elite smugness.

ಸಂಪದದಲ್ಲಿ ಬರೆಯುವಾಗ ಕನ್ನಡವನ್ನಷ್ಟೇ ಬಳಸಿ

ಸಂಪದದಲ್ಲಿ ಬ್ಲಾಗ್ ಮಾಡುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ಇರುವ ಮುಖ್ಯ ಷರತ್ತು ಕನ್ನಡದಲ್ಲಿ ಬರೆಯಬೇಕು. ಯೂನಿಕೋಡ್ ಬಳಸಬೇಕು ಎಂಬುದು. ನೀವು ಅವರೆಡನ್ನೂ ಮೀರಿರುವ ಈ ಬ್ಲಾಗನ್ನು ಅಳಿಸುವ ಪ್ರಸ್ತಾವನೆಯನ್ನು ಮುಂದಿಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದೇನೆ. ತಾವು ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್ ನಲ್ಲಿ ಬರೆದಿರುವುದನ್ನು ತಾವೆ ಅಳಿಸಿ ಹಾಕಿ ಅದನ್ನೇ ಕನ್ನಡದಲ್ಲಿ ಬರೆಯಿರಿ ಎಂದು ವಿನಂತಿಸುತ್ತೇನೆ. ಕನ್ನಡದಲ್ಲಿ ಬರೆಯುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ನಿಮಗೆ ಸಮಸ್ಯೆ ಇದ್ದರೆ ಈ ಸಹಾಯ ಪುಟವನ್ನು ನೋಡಿ.
