ಪುರಾಣಗಳು

ಹೀಂಗೆ ಪುರಾಣ ಅಂದ್ರೆ ಏನು ಅಂತ ಹುಡುಕಬೇಕಾದರೆ ಈ ಅರ್ಥಗಳು ನನಗೆ ಕಂಡವು. ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಹಾಕ್ತಾ ಇದ್ದೀನಿ

>ಪುರಾ ನವಂ ಭವತಿ ಇತಿ ಪುರಾಣಂ !

ಹಳೆಯದು (ಪುರಾ) ಹೊಸದಾಗಿ (ನವಂ) ರೂಪಗೊಂಡಾಗ ನಮಗೆ ಸಿಗುವುದೇ ಈ ಪುರಾಣ.

>ಯಸ್ಮಾತ್ ಪುರಾ ಹ್ರಾನತಿ ಇದಂ ಪುರಾಣಂ ತೇನ ತತ್ ಸ್ಮೃತಂ!

ಹಳೆಯದನ್ನೇ ಉಸಿರಾಡುವುದರಿಂದ ಇದನ್ನು ಪುರಾಣ ಅಂತಾರೆ.

>ಯಸ್ಮಾತ್ ಪುರಾ ಹ್ರಾಭೂಚ್ಚೌತತ್ ಪುರಾಣಂ ತೇನ ತತ್ ಸ್ಮೃತಂ !

ಹಳೆಯ ಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಇದ್ದದ್ದರಿಂದ ಇದನ್ನು ಪುರಾಣ ಅಂತ ಕರೀತಾರೆ.

(î) belonging to the olden time, primaeval, ancient, old; withered (leaf); n. things of the olden time; tale of past ages, ancient legend; Purâna, N. of eighteen legen dary works treating chiefly of cosmogony and divine genealogy; m. a coin of a certain weight (a measure of silver equal to eighty cowries).
