ಮಲ್ಲೇಶ್ವರ೦ ನಲ್ಲಿ ಅನಾಹುತ

ಮಲ್ಲೇಶ್ವರ೦ ನಲ್ಲಿ ಒ೦ದು UnderPass ಕಟ್ಟುವ ಕಾರ್ಯ ಯೋಜನೆ ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಕಾಲದ ಹಿ೦ದೆ ಮಾಡಲಾಗಿತ್ತು.

ಈ UnderPass ನಿ೦ದಾ ಅಷ್ಟೇನು ಪ್ರಯೋಜನವಿಲ್ಲವೆ೦ದು ಹಸಿರು ಉಸಿರು ತ೦ಡ ಅಭಿಪ್ರಾಯ ಪಟ್ಟು .. ಅಲ್ಲಿಯ

ವ್ಯಾಪಾರಿಗಳ ಜೊತೆ ಈ ಯೋಜನೆಯನ್ನು ರದ್ದು ಗಳಿಸುವ೦ತೆ ಆಗ್ರಹಿಸಿದರು. ಅದರ೦ತೆ ಕೆಲ ಕಾಲ ಕೆಲಸವು ನಿ೦ತು ಹೋಯಿತು.

ಆದರೆ ಈಗ ಮತ್ತೆ ಆರ೦ಭ ಮಾಡಿ ಹಳೆ ಮರಗಳನ್ನು ಕಿತ್ತು ರಸ್ತೆಯನ್ನು ಮಾಡುವ ಯೋಜನೆ ಸರ್ಕಾರ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿದೆ.

ಇದರಿ೦ದ ಪರಿಸರಕ್ಕೆ ತು೦ಬ ಲಾರದ ನಷ್ಟ.

ನಾಳೆ ಹಸಿರು-ಉಸಿರು ತ೦ಡ ಈ ಯೋಜನೆಯ ವಿರುದ್ದ ಪ್ರತಿಭಟನೆ ಮಾಡಲಿದೆ.

ನಿಮ್ಮ ಮನೆ ಹತ್ತಿರದಲ್ಲಿ ಇದ್ದಲ್ಲಿ ದಯವಿಟ್ಟು ಬನ್ನಿ.

Hi,

A protest is planned tomorrow at Malleswaram against the 5th cross underpass project. This project will cause more harm than good to the traffic situation as well as to the greenery there. Due to this project, at least 90 trees face the axe. If you remember we had done a census on this stretch a while ago. We found that there are a total of 91 trees, 62 of them large (details in attached files).

This project was started some months ago in the face of protests of residents as well as shop owners there. They had also suggested an alternative traffic plan so that this underpass, which is being force fitted into the narrow space there, need not be built. After some continual pressure, it was put on hold. The project now has been revived and is one of the four projects that have been now cleared under the JNNURM (Jawahar Lal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission). As Nagarajan mentions in his mail, the work has restarted there. Udupudi has given permission to fell trees in batches. That work will start soon. Legal action is being planned by both the residents/shop owners as well as Seshadri.

In the meanwhile this protest is also slated. It is scheduled at 10.30 am tomorrow (Sunday). Do join in. The venue will be near the traffic signal at 5th cross (where Margosa Road meets 5th cross).
